Pemba was born June 2006 to a feral mother in a metal salvage shop yard in a rough section of Atlanta, where she was neglected and physically abused. Atlanta’s Fulton County Animal Control picked her up around eight weeks old and we found her at their shelter shortly thereafter. Cowering in a corner of a handling cage, Pemba wouldn’t meet any human eyes and shook in fear when touched... but watching her interact with other dogs, we could tell that underneath the grief and despair was an intelligent young lady.
Pemba has transformed from her difficult beginnings into an amazing dog. Bright, loving, vivacious and happy - the world is Pemba’s oyster. She is fiercely loyal and eternally grateful for her new life and brings joy to us each day. While her exact birthdate is unknown, here at Kamali Kennels we celebrate August 16th as “Pemba Day,” marking the date she was adopted from the shelter.
Pemba will compete in the new AKC Mixed Breed program for Agility and Obedience.
“Pemba” is a Tanzanian name meaning “the force of present existence.” This name was chosen to celebrate the gift dogs have of living fully in the moment.
